Travel information
Below you find information on travel arrangements and reimbursement. Note that we can usually only reimburse you for second/economy class tickets on public transport occuring for direct travel to the workshop and back (for extending/combining trips see below). Please consider booking your flights and train tickets early to keep costs low, but prefer refundable options in case there will be renewed restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Venue
The workshop will take place at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS). The FRIAS is located at Albertstr. 19, 79104 Freiburg.
Hotel
We will reserve a room for you in a hotel within walking distance to the FRIAS. If you haven't done so already, please let us know whether you plan to stay two or three nights in Freiburg.
lf you need to cancel your stay, please make sure to inform us at least 48 hours in advance. In case of later cancellations, the University may not be able to cover the cancellation fees.
Train
Freiburg main station is well connected and about 1 km from the FRIAS. Train tickets can be booked at https://www.bahn.de.
We can refund second-class tickets. First-class tickets can be refunded if you attach a comparison quote showing that it was cheaper than travelling in second class.
Air travel
Nearby airports are Basel/Mulhouse, Zurich, Frankfurt and Stuttgart.
We can refund economy class flight and second-class travel on public transport to/from the airport. Refunding is restricted to particlar modes of transport for the following airports: Basel/Mulhouse (shuttle bus); Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Zurich (train). Air travel within Germany cannot be reimbursed – please take the train.
Taxi, car and other modes of transport
Taxi costs can only be refunded in particular circumstances and if no alternative mode of transport was accessible. If you would like to travel by car or use another mode of transport, please get in touch beforehand about reimbursement regulations. Costs of a rental car are not refundable.
Combining trips or extending your stay
We can only reimburse you for traveling directly from your home or workplace to the workshop and back on the dates 22.-25.11.2022. In case you plan to stay longer or combine your trip to Freiburg with a detour or stopover, please make sure to get a comparison quote for a direct trip to the workshop and back. We can then refund the costs that would have been incurred if you had traveled directly to/from the workshop on the abovementioned dates, or the costs of the booked trip if the latter are lower. Please make sure that the comparison quote is from the same date as the booked trip.
Reimbursement
Please keep all your tickets and receipts and fill out this form. The form needs to be filled out electronically, signed by hand and submitted by post together with all original documents (boarding passes, train tickets, etc.) as soon as possible after your return to:
